Spots on my Coral Beauty! Pls Help!!
I origionally posted on the fish disease forum, but there is not alot of activity there & not much response. After a 3 day vacation, I noticed some spots, missing scales(?) on my coral beauty. There are 3-4 on each side of her body & one on her pectorial fin. It is not ich & doesnt look like the pics I have seen of velvet. Is it a parasite of some sort? She has been in the tank for a year now w/ no problems. She is swimming & eating fine. Actually, better than she has in a couple of months.
All other fish are fine: yellow tang, regal tang, clarki, maroon clown, 6 line wrass & a yellow watchman gobie. 4 btas (due to 2 splits) 2 cleaner shrimps & softies. The only things I have added to my tank in several months are sanils & red legged hermits. I will try to post some pics or the link to photobucket. I would really appreciate ANY help, as I am "freaking out here". I am really attached to these little fellas http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...n/100_3669.jpg

Can't tell from the picture but it could be lymphocystis. This is a viral infection with no known cure. However, fish can overcome it with good nutrition and low stress.

Is that frogspawn or hammer I see in the pic? I ask cuz sometimes Coral Beauty like to rub themselfs on the sand or rocks and maybe she has been rubbing against that, and she is getting alittle scraped up from the skelatin cuz they are really sharp. try to watch her and see if she is rubbing against anything? If so try alittle stess coat to help rebuild her scales. If it was some kind of parasite the cleaner shrimp should be all over her. Hope everything works out, I just bought one myself and there a really cool fish. Good luck....

FYI If it is lmphocystis it is not thought to be contagious.Absent another idea for diagnosis, I would enhance feedin, perhaps soaking food in a vitamin supplement such as selcon or even garlic.

How is fish doing, swimming, eating ect. Please let us know whats going on with him okay? I understand you were upset but you also have to realize many people won't even attempt to reply to someones sick fish because that is a lot more serious then giving out medical information then the bristleworm question you were talking about! It also helps if you don't get any responces within a while that you write bump which means bring up my post so new people signing on can see it up towards the top!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I am so sorry for my other post. I didnt mean to rant or be rude. I lost my job a few days ago & then I come home to a sick fish. I was stressing & being very impatient. I have learned so much on this site just by reading all the threads, so I havent had to ask many questions. I really do love this site. Please accept my sincere apology.
The coral beauty is the same today, no new spots. That is a frogspawn in the pic & she does hang out over by it most of the time. I didnt think of her maybe getting stung. I always soak her food in garlic (pellots & ocassionally mysis). She is still very active & eating well. I is impossible to get her out of the tank w/ out breaking down the whole tank, I have Lots of live rock. I will continue to watch her & pray that they dont get worse. So far my other fish are fine. Thanks again everyone! I really do appreciate all of you. Renee

Rustybucket, I am an idiot when it posting pictures here. The only way I could figure out how to do it was to transfer it from photobucket. I dont know how to make the file smaller, but I will try & send a better pic. Thanks!

Stings are possible. If that's an anemone in the pic, the clown may be turning sexual and getting cranky, and there may be some nipping and shoving going on. If that's the case, she'll get over it on her own.

Hey sorry to hear about your job,and everyone has bad days, I seriously dought anyone took offense to it. Hammers and Frogspawn look soft and cute but the have a really hard and sharp skelaten so it sometimes nicks the fins pretty good but the good thing is Coral Beauties are pretty tough fish so I think You will be ok !!
