What heaters do you use?
I put a 300W Azoo titanium heater in my 65 gal and it worked for about 3 days before crapping out. It still works I guess, but I have it set on 85 and it barely keeps the water at 77 degrees!

Ebo Jager and marineland Visitherm stealth.
I would put any heater on a controller. It will save you in the long run |

i relly like visitherm stealth, have 3 of them. been using 2 of them for over a year, very consistent and reliable so far. they are plastic witch means to corision, and no breaking. i had a titanium heater that they claim will not coroid, but it did. i will never use another glass heater ever again, i had one break on me, and that really sucked.

Ebo Jager and Rena Cal. You just have to get the right glass heaters. Have had a rena for 7 years, still works great. Have had other glass heaters break but not either of these. They are made with thicker glass and higher quality than most. I still use controller and thermostat on heaters for back up.

I started out with some Theo Hydors because they fit in my sump. One stopped working after 3 days, another runs at top heat no matter how low you set it so I use it to warm MUWater. I ended up replacing them with vistherm stealths - they work very well and aren't made of glass.

I'll give the Ebos thumbs up. They last a long time and they do have a thicker glass around them. I agree a seperate controller such as a ranco would be the optimal way to go about it.

I use an Eheim Jager heater in series with a Medusa controller. An Eheim Jager heater is unique in that it can be calibrated should it drift.
