Purpose of the waste valve on RO/Di

Should the RO/DI be drained after use is that why there is a waste or drain valve. I am using the Filterguy reef +1 unit.

All Ro/Di systems have a wast line depending on the system and how efficent it is and water conditions, it can take 3 gal of water to have one gal come out the Ro/Di side the remainig 2 gal has to go some where, thus the wast line usally tapped into a sink drain

well i meant i have a valve that has a waste line I am thinking its to drain the water in the membranes I know that the ro/di unit connects to a waste line but I was more or less talking about the valve that is on the ro/di itself. Maybe I will post this in the filter guy forum and see if they can answer this better

It is more then likely a flush valve to back flush the membrane for about 30 seconds before and after use, but normally closed when making water and you want to keep the membrane wet, so do not drain it.

The valve is used normally when you change filter to remove all the dust and residue. There should be a pressure release built in to it that runs every time you make RO water.
