O2 exchange effects skimmer?

Ok so I waited a good month observing before posting on this. Tank's been up since Nov 07. My skimmer worked "average" and I was satisfied over the last few. Skimmate formed in the cup etc.

However, over the past month, ever since I opened up the glass canopies to allow the water to cool (summer months etc), I've noticed my skimmer cup has mega bubbles in it. I've never ever seen it this filled with good skimmate since I opened the tops up.

I have done nothing, added nothing, nor changed anything in my process since opening up the tops and even weeks and weeks before.

Air exchange can effect the level of skimmate this thing pulls?

Thanks.
