Need help finding light timer
Yesterday I went to the hardware store to get a timer for my lights. I got one thats called "Intermatic Time All Lamp & Appliance Timer". First of all where I plug the cord into the timer it doesnt have 3 prongs, only 2. But I need 3 for one of my lights. And one of my lights only needs 2 prongs so I just tried that to see if it would work, and it didnt. So now I need to get another one.
Maybe I'm just doing something wrong, and I dont know it, but doesn anyone have any suggestions on any other timers? Oh and I heard that people dont have luck with the coralife timer. |

Actually, many people like the Coralife timers, especially arsonists and other pyromaniacs. I'd say stay away from them
You can buy a cheap adapter that turns a grounded (3 prong) plug into a 2 prong plug. Try one of those.

Oh I didnt even think of that. I could just pick one of those up and the hardware store right?
But wait even when I did try the two prong, it still didnt work. |

Don't use a 2-3 prong adapter on a timer, that's a serious fire hazard. Just look for an appliance timer with grounded outlets. They're available everywhere, including wal-mart.

the digital timers on any fish website are great. single or double plugs for you to use(I think they are the same price). 7 day timer setting if you want something different on certain days. battery backup, reliable, long lasting. 20$ well spent.

The intermatic timers also come in a three prong grounded variety. Not as commonly found in retail stores though. The three to two adapter is a good suggestion for a quick fix.

This is what I got (at Lowes) and I really like them a lot. They are worth the extra money in my opinion.

Ok thanks. Do you think I could plug an a power center into that, so I can have it controlling two lights and the same time?

Well, that Lowes time has two plugs but the plugs aren't independently controlled. If you want to control two lights on separate schedules, you'll need two timers.

yep, be aware that the timers are good for 15amps. which is probably what your breaker and outlet is good for... and unless your running 1000+watts of lighting, no issue. just saying, be careful about christmas tree syndrome.

Stay away from the corallife power center. I read they can go on fire and your whole room can up in smoke. |

I think he means splitter...
DON'T plug a splitter into a timer... Just but 2 timers, one for each light and avoid fire hazards
