How high do fish jump?

I am going to be building a canopy in the near future for my tank and am going to leave the top open. The sides will go all around the tank and will be about 10-12" tall. Will a fish be able to jump that high out of the water and clear the canopy?

Totally depends on how scared the fish is!

I just recently got a Scott's Fairy Wrasse, and I also have an enclosed canopy, but inevitably something will scare it, and three times now, he's jumped up and smacked himself against the glass covering the MH's (6" above the water). I'm sure given the room this fish could clear 12" though. I'm not sure that is typical though.

I've been good with a 9" rim. No jumpers, though some have landed in the downflow...which i have now screened with plastic needlepoint canvas.

The only fish right now that would jump out would be my jawfish or a clown, but I want to get some anthias and maybe a wrasse in the future. I think I am going to leave the top open, I think 12" plus having to get by my T5's and reflectors would make it hard for a fish to jump out.

My fish have to clear about 5" to get out of the tank, and only the sixline wrasse succeeded (though plenty have found their way to the overflow).
