reef lighting question
i have a 40 gallon
the coral i have now are shrooms, and zoos fish i have are cardnal 2 blue stipe pipes 1 dragon face pipe catalina goby i just bought a pendant 250 metal halide my question is how high should i hang the light i would like to start doing some sps |

I would hang it 8-12 inches, for two reasons splashing and heat. The lower end of the spectrum would be better for efficiency.

10k is more like natural sunlight 20k is more on blue side i would use 10k

Goby
If I'm not mistaken, the Catalina goby is a temperate-cool water species. I am concerned that reef temperatures will not be suitable for this fish in the long run.

my tank stays at about 75 with the fans i have on it i just lose a lot of water with evaporation

i hang my 250 about 8 - 10 inches off the water. have to run a fan in the summer or the temp will soar into the upper 80's.
