RDSB questions
i bought cut pieces of glass to construct a small tank to fit in an availabe area in my stand in front of my sump tank.
the tank i am building is gonna be 30 wide x 6 deep x 16 tall. i'm gonna put a partition in the middle so i'll have 2 chambers that are 15x6x16. one chamber will hold my ATO water & the other will be my RDSB. here is where it will be going (the open area in front of the sump tank) my questions: * should i paint all the sides of the RDSB chamber black to block all light?? * if so, should i also make a black top for it?? * should i instead paint it a dark grey so some light gets in??

as far as the painting goes i dont think it would matter(painting might help by allowing benthic organisms to form-only if slow flow)
are you just using it for a DSB or are you going to light it for macro?

the refugium will have the cheato ball that will have a spraybar to keep it tumbling & grow light on opposite lighting schedule of the main tank. it will also contain some live rock

The colour of the paint doesn't really make much difference to how much light will in, it just changes the colour of the light that does get in. It's the thickness of the paint that will exclude the light.
From the little bit of information you've given I suspect your mixing idea's from both RDSB's and DSB's. They are two different beasts. A RDSB should have no light at all. |
