all-glass overflow behavior

I have a 90 gallon all-glass overflow and I notice that air is always in the oveflow tube coming into my reefugium. Is that normal? Is there any way to eliminate this?

Yes this is normal. For water to flow well it need air behind it. You can build a bubble trap out of various materials you have lying around. I have used a pitcher with holes drilled halfway around the bottom and then put the holes in the corner of the sump. I usually put live rock rubble in there to help breakup the bubbles.
