what is the proper way to clean sand?

how do u guys clean sand before u put it in tank? what is the easiest most effective way? do u need to wash it with ro/di water? thx!

I wash it a little at a time in a big tub using my hose and tap water

If you do it in small batches it will be much more effective and there will be less dust in the water.

just use water from the tap? wouldn't that cause algae bloom?
