chip on corner of tank

I bought a used tank and it was in perfect condition. It's been sitting on my floor a while waiting some problems I had before I could set it up. I discovered a small chip on the edge today, probably occurred during moving it. It's 1/2 inch glass and you can't feel it from the inside of the tank, just the outside. It's about 1/8 inch diameter. Will this affect the integrity of the tank holding water? It's a 280 gal AGE. Please help, I don't know what to do.

Is it on the corner? I had a 125 that was chipped a lot on the corners but didn't affect it. It held water just fine.

Chip near the top of the tank don't pose a problem. One near the bottom can be trouble however. If the chip is near the bottom watch after you fill it for any sign of cracking. That will usually happen in a few day after it is full.

The chip is in the corner. It's 9 inches from the bottom on a 29 inch tank. Is there anything that can be done before filling the tank to repair? Thanks.

Not really Kay and that is high enough up where it shouldn't cause a problem.

Sounds like a small chip for 1/2". The diameter is less important than the depth of chip, if it's a shallow chip with no signs of a crack you'll be fine. There is no way to repair a chip.

I had a chip in on corner of my tank that was put there while it was set up and it went about 1/3 of the way into the glass and it held just fine and the glass was only 1/4" I replaced it as soon as I could be with 1/2" glass I would think that you would be just fine.

fill it up in the garage or outback and let it sit for a couple days and see how it goes would be my method of checking

Pumps such as wavemakers also create some kind of vibration on the glass. So I would recommend to have one running while you're doing the "strength test" in your garage or outback.

Good luck!
