strange noise coming from RO/DI...
and it is making me CRAZY!!! All of a sudden a few days ago, my ro/di began making a very strange noise, sortof like a groaning noise... sounds like it is under pressure, like water pipes sometimes do. I have it tapped directly into my main water mainfest . It comes from the main manifest to the RO/DI, then I have a "T" and one line goes to a 32 gallon Brute can so I always have fresh water for making up water change water and the other line goes to my sump for top of... (I know I know... this is NOT recommended but we can debate that another day)...
so why does this all of a sudden sound like there is pressure in the lines and why is it making this sound??I have all valves open and main water supply on... It comes about every 5 seconds or so, a low groan, grind sound... making us all crazy... any ideas why this is making this noise and how to get it to STOP???

Have you had it hooked up this same way this entire time ? and it just started making this noise ?
Most RO/DI units have the PVC...Push in fittings. It sounds like maybe one of them is sucking in air....Air got in the line & as the water is moving through the canisters.....its making that sound.

If the line coming out of the membrane is clear, or you have a piece of clear pipe you could put there, do you see many bubbles coming out of the unit? If so, I would check the connection for an air leak. Also, try and listen while it's doing it and see if you can isolate where the noise is coming from. Good luck.

I would check your lines...we have nasty well water where I live and lime builds up inside my lines about every 2 months so I have to change them

Sounds like water hammer. Water suddenly starting and stopping makes that sound.
There are devices you can install to fix it. This may help. http://home.howstuffworks.com/home-i...fix-pipes5.htm |
