Durso standpipe size
Im setting up a new tank and im looking to make some standpipes for it. when I check out the diy website on durso's, it says to use the next larger size pvc in your overflow than your bulkhead is. Mine are 1 inch bulkheads and Im looking at 1 1/4 piping in my overflow. That looks really big in my opinion. And space will be tight.
My tank is a 40 cube with an internal overflow box. Im using an extra mag 9.5 pump ( i know its big) but Ill be using a sqwid wavemaker and a ball valve for flow control. (the sqwid reduces pump volume by 20% the manufacturer says). I have 3 holes in the bottom of my overflow. My return is entering the tank via 2 bulkheads in the rear of the tank on opposite sides with locline on the inside. Im shooting for 250 to 300 gph through the system. Any ideas would be helpful....maybe a different type of standpipe? Hofer Gurgler? Failsafe? Thanks for your time! Jason |

1.25" is the standard size for a Durso on a 1" bulkhead. What is tight? The down turn elbow? I have those in AGA corner overflows which are really small and squeezed them in.
I've used SCWDs and they cut flow back way more than 20%. I had one on a Mag9 and it reduced flow to a Mag5 level. I doubt you will need the ball valve.

sorry....the "tight" part is fitting pipe that big into the overflow box. I could squeeze 2 into it and just block off the third. I dont have a prob with the reduced flow from the sqwid.

One drain will be fine for that much flow.
