New liverock, help!!~!
I have heard of sand doing this, but not live rock. Is everything going to be OK? Do you think the life will die? How should I handle this? I have only ever put in small amounts of live rock at a time when I had an aquarium before, but today I just put 34 lbs in at once. Should I run skimmer? UV? When should I do a water change? How much? Here is a pic of what I am talking about:

It is always best to wash live rock in saltwater (swish it around in a bucket) before putting it in the tank, as it often has accumulated mud, sand and debris (as seen in the photo). Use some floss or better yet a filter sock to remove the sediment. I would still wash it in a bucket, as it is likely to continue to cloud the water for some time into the future.

I did swish it in a bucket, 2 full 5 gallon buckets. I did not scrub it because I read somewhere that it is OK not to. This cloudyness does not seem to be ruining the pumps. Is it possible that it will? I put a small power filter in to try and help. I do not have a filter sock and my lfs is closed, but that is a good idea.

I had it to when I added my liverock, I wouldn't worry. How many times did you swish it? until the water was clear? How long has it been like this? the live will properly survive. I see a snail? The snail properly won't survive, your suppose to add the CUC (clean up crew) after the cycle.
Good luck, it might take a while before it clears up. |

When I swished them, I didn't know I was supposed to do it until the water turned clear. To do that, I would have had to have at least 30 gallons of saltwater at the time! If you do see a snail its a hitchhiker. It came with a dead crab too. This morning the water was a lot clearer. I think I would have been better off to scrub the dead stuff off with a toothbrush, which it is still not too late to do right? I will just take them all out and put them in 5 gallon buckets with fresh saltwater, nd scrub everyone gently, and then put them all back one-by-one.

I would do a water change and suck up all the stuff that settled on the bottom.

Hey uidiNano, with all that wicked flow mentioned in your signature, do you have substrate? If so, how do you keep it from flying around?
