Need help installing RO/DI

I am installing my filter system and I am trying to get the self-piercing feed valve on my galvanized plumbing. Do I need to drill first?

Would not recommend attaching to galvanized pipe. Would have to drill(with water off) exact size as hole for valve or it won't close (depending on valve, some will). Find a better location for attaching or drill the hole if it closes properly. Still not recommended, but not a plumber.

Galvanized is all I have, unfortunately.

Talked to friend and he said it will work but must be drilled. Be sure to drain pipe, of course shut off water.

Thanks. Instead of doing that, I just may run the supply directly from the faucet since it is in the basement.
