What are the chances my fish have ich and I never see it?

My fish is scratching a lot but i see nothing yet. I know that if it is ich, its at its first stages. I am keeping a close eye on jim but I am wondering what the chances are I may miss the outside (white spot) symptoms?

What color is the fish? It can harder to see on light colored fish.

I have a couple fish that flash the sad near where they sleep. I think they like to keep their home as clean as possible. I have a big rock that has an anmome on it and the clowns keep that rock sprakling clean. They are always fanning the rock.

He is a lighter blue colored fish. He is scratching his gill area on the top of the 4" PVC pipe in the QT.

When we first got our Blue Tang he scratched a lot for a few days before the white spots showed up on him.
