transferring livestock to new tank
So i have decided to transfer my live stock to a new tank. The old tank has been established a few years. Can i expect problems to occur? Will simply moving the sand over cause problems? thanks

Generally, moving the sand over will casue problems. You can wash the sand but many people just elect to get new dry sand and start fresh.

Good time to go bare bottom. I did last summer and now wish I'd done it years ago. I left just enough sand to create a few drifts against the rocks and noticed almost immediate benefits in water quality. If you're determined to keep sand in the new tank though I've always advocated a thorough rinse before reusing it. Many people will say you can't get enough of the old stuff out and shouldn't reuse it but I think that if you take your time you can do it. Basically, how much is your time worth? If you've got time to spare rinse and reuse. If not, buy some new stuff.
