Water changes still needed?
If I lose an average of 5 gallons a week do to evaporation and I am refilling with RO water and dosing CA and MA. Are water changes still necessary?
Water parameters 78 Degrees 1.024/.25 Salinity PH 8.3 CA 420 MA 1320-1340 Po4 0 Ammonia 0 Nitrate 0 Nitrite 0-.25ppm KH 11 "I beleive if this is the one that goes to 12" |

I would say yes. Water changes help with trace elements we don't even test for as well as some we do like iodine.

I would agree, the only thing that is removed from our tanks due to evap. is water, nothing else goes with it(nitrates, etc.) those are only removed via H20 changes.......so not only do you take harful organics out when we do H20 changes as Fizz stated we also replenish essential trace elements contained in salt mix.....

Evaporation has no effect on the frequency of your water changes. Even if you could theoretically have a system with no evaporation or the opposite, 100% evaporation per day, your water change schedule would/should remain the same.

Believe me when I say that you have only begun to do water changes. 10 years from now you're going to have several hundred under your belt. I think you're going to find that as you get into regular water changed you'll have to dose less product to keep good water parameters, until you've got a tank that can compete for tank of the month that is.
