Yes, would prolly need 6bulb minimum but it will be just fine. May not want to be on the sand bed, may have to move it up to middle of tank, but t5's will be plenty powerful enough.

I would second the six bulb recommendation and I would also suggest a crocea placed in the rock work up high. The crocea suggestion is because they prefer to be in rocks and IME will quickly attach themselves very securely.

I had a 90 gallon (48x18x24) with 6 T5's with individual reflectors and I was able to keep a crocea on the sand bed with no problems.

Clams
I have a Maxima sitting on the sand bed. My tank is the same as yours 48x24x24. I run the Tek 8 Bulb all T5 and it loves life.
Hope this helps |

A friend of mine runs 8 bulbs with SLR reflectors on a 30" deep 220g and he has a few Deresa's (he might have a squamosa also) on the bottom with no problem.
The big thing will be the reflectors and bulb combo. There is a T5 QA thread that can help as far as bulb choice. |

I have a 100g Regular running 8x54w T5's and currently house a total of 3 Clams for the past year. 2 Deresa's (6" & 8") and 1 Crocea (5") all of which are placed on the very bottom substrate. All are doing great and continue to grow!

I have the same tank (48x24x24) with two croceas on the rocks and a derasa in the sand. Six bulb retro from reefgeek with ATI bulbs. Doing great.

I had kept several crocea clams using 4 x 96 watt PC from Custom Sealife several years ago. Never a problem.
I had a few in the rock and one in the sand. 24" tall tank. |

have 2 in mine. same size tank. with 6 bulb aquatinics solarflare fixture. both are on sand doing well. my fixture is icecap overdriven & will bleach many high light corals if i don`t start out on sand & slowly move higher. many have come from tanks with high power metal halide fixtures & still have to start out on bottom. some may argue, but i think i could put any coral in tank & have enough light for it to thrive. i might have to keep up high, but would have enough light imo.

I have a clam doing great under a 4 bulb configuration. However the brand of bulbs I have are pretty good..all with individual reflectors.

I'm not sure if I would do clams with that fixture. If you go t5's get one with real individual reflectors and fans.

Front ATI B+ Fiji Purple ATI B+ GE 6500 ATI B+ ATI B+ The ATI brings out the flourescents in the coral while the Fiji bring out the pinks and reds and the GE will bring out the yellows. Also, I would pick up a ATI aqua blue and replace the ATI B+ if you would like it to be a little more white-ish look. That's the great thing about T5, you can change just 1 bulb and it'll make huge difference with the color.
