Calcium AND Kalk?
I run a 120 gallon mixed reef. For the most part I have LPS, with some encrusting montisI have about 4 pieces of branching SPS total, a clam (Plan on getting another), zoas, and chalices... not an enormous bioload in my opinion. I'd say moderate. I've got alot of uncovered rock still in my tank.
I recently had some work done in my house, which included a fair bit of painting and caused my ALK to take a nosedive. Because of that I started looking into a calcium reactor to stabalize things, and found a calcium reactor package I'm happy with. The same guy with the calcium reactor has now offered me a really good deal on a DIY Kalk reactor. I've read on a few websites tips where it is good for 'high demand SPS systems', but I personally don't care much for SPS (Except for the encrusting montis, those I like, but in limited quantities) They look too much like fuzzy sticks to me Even if they are COLORFUL fuzzy sticks. So, do I need BOTH of these? How much would biting the bullet and getting both really benefit me in the end? Thanks guys! |

No you do not need both, the Ca Rx on its own would be more than enough for the system you want to do.

I would go for the kalk reactor less hassle and cheaper. I have a mixed reef tank with my ato hooked to a kalk reactor. Calcium and alk steady.
