Reusing rock

Hi,

I have a fish-only system that has a lot of rock that I want to reuse for a possible reef tank. In the fish only tank I used tap water with conditioner, and obviously I would use RO with the reef. Should I be concerned about any phosphates, metal, etc, that could have been soaked up by the fish only rock? Can I still use it after a good cleaning?

Thanks

As long as you used no copper based treatments or chemicals in the FOWLR tank just mix a fresh batch of saltwater and clean the rocks in there and you should be fine!

You'll have some phosphates, silicates, metals that came from the tap water and adsorbed into the rock, but not enough to be a real problem, IMO. They should all leach out with time and water changes with the RODI water.

As long as your fish only system doesnt have any algae problems, then there should be no problems.
