The best algae scrappers.

I currently am using a Magfloat to clean the inside of my glass but I am not thrilled with it. Also, to scrape coralline I am using scraper that has a 3" wide metal piece. it's not exactly a razor but it is pretty thin. I am very particular about my glass and I'm not happy so far. I would appreciate your recommendations for both magnet scrapers and the hand held variety. Thanks!

I had great success with the easy blade.

http://www.easybladeusa.com/instructions.html

The glue started to come up after probably a year of use, but for the price and the frequency that I used it I was still very satisfied. I used it with the algaefree brand magnet cleaners, which I find far superior to the magfloat brand.

handled paint scrapper from home depot works great for coraline. $5 got me a 4 inch blade with a nice rubber handle.

Great idea and much more cost effective than a Kent scraper.

The blades rust very quickly on those. Get this one fron PetSmart.

I've found that one of the best algae scrappers is just an old credit card or ID card. Works pretty good on coralline in my tank as well. Best part is that its free!

I have this one too. Heads and shoulders above anything else I have used. After 6 months I am still on the original blade, and it floats too!

It works on the toughest algae, coralline, etc. without scratching the glass. The blade does not rust and it has very comfortable rubberized curved handle that multiplies the pressure applied at the blade making each stroke effective with lesser effort. I rave about this gadget because it really works the best. It's also cheap.

Thanks for the input but I might have a hard time spending $50-70 on a magnet scraper. Would you say that they are really worth that much?

I use a magnavore with an easy blade. Flawless performance for 4 years now. Nothing better for a glass tank, IMO!

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I will get the one from Petco and a long-handled paint scraper and see how that goes for the coralline.

I want to try the credit card but scared of scratching the glass. The magnets like the aquamedic is too expensive for me.

A credit card wont scratch glass unless it's platinum

I have never had much success with credit cards. The long handled scraper above works pretty well, although if you have a deeper tank you are going to get half of your arm wet.

I already have a Kent scraper that has about a 12" handle. I have aquarium long sleeved gloves so getting wet is not an issue I am just not thrilled with it's scraping ability.

No kidding, the cheap top fin one is the best I've had. Had mine about a year now, still in perfect condition. I picked up a long kent one, but I'm really disappointed with it.

Don't worry about scratching your glass with it. As long as you don't get any coraline under the blade and pull back, you won't scratch. I've heard some horrible sounds scraping my tank before, yet no scratches.

I like the idea behind the petsmart one, but I have one from Petco that is IMO a lot better than that one from petsmart for 3 reasons.

(1 It has a foam grip like on a grip for a pistol
(2 It telescopes from a foot and a half to almost three feet
(3 It has detachable tools that can be interchanged on the 'head' of the wand; one is a plastic scraper (can't rust), another is a bristle type pad for stubborn algae and the third is a comb/rake for keeping your sand clean.

It works really well for me and cost less than ten dollars with all three attachments.

Here it is I provided a link also.
