I would say good water quality, xenia loves to grow under weird conditions, and apparently works a good form of nutrient export, wont try to grow it ever, so I am kinda just speaking from what I have read.

I didn't realize these wouldn't grow in any condition. J/K Pretty easy one to keep.

High alkalinity, i.e. over 12 IME makes them melt and wither away.

Mine keep dying off and I don't know why, I am successfully keeping other softies and lps in the tank so I don't know what is going on.

they are very sensitive to low salinity. try keeping a .026 or .027. my pink pulsing likes cleaner water and a bit higher salinity

My xenia struggled with too much light and fluctuating parameters. Dosing iodine really helped, but getting CA and Alk steady and solid helped the xenia even more than the SPS. I now have xenia taking over my tank, and will have to start giving or throwing it away!

So you have your baby tank and your step child tank. That explains a lot. You HAVE to post a pic of the stepchild!
Sorry gasbatalla

I'd say too clean of water is an issue. I had trouble keeping xenia until I started dosing phytoplex and basically gummed up my water.
