Marco Sand????

I am in the process of setting up my 300 gallon tank and I bought 250 pounds of Marco rock and love it..But, I also bought 100 pounds of Marco's sand and I am worried. I opened one box and put about half in a 5 gallon bucket to rinse it and the stuff is so fine. I rinsed it and after 2 minutes of sitting still it was still loaded with suspended sand. I am worried that if I use it there will be a mess in my tank. The sand is fine as dust almost. Has anyone used this sand or should i trash it and go buy new?

I didn't like the sand I bought from Marco, too fine, but that's my preference.

you should def. go another route... marco sand must be made fro flowless aquariums, their rock is amazing though.

anyways a good cheap alternative is caribsea special grade

i switched to that from marco sand and I love it!

Marco sand is probably the best out there. I have similiar sand (Southdown, can't get it anymore) and once it settles you will have no problems. I run 2 mp40's and 2 mp10's in my 90 with a 5" sandbed, no problems.

Marco sand does look good but i could never get it to settle in my 120. After 6 months of constant sand storms i decided to add a layer of Fiji pink.

I have the MP40w about 16" from the sand bed and it would pull the sand with a tornado effect.

It will eventually all end up in my filter socks.

It is slowly being replaced with fiji pink or special grade.

I love marco sand, it is sugar fine but I love it. I have 3-4" in my 58 with an MP-20 and it is fine.

I am sure Marco's sand is awesome in the right tank. I took half of a 5 gallon bucket full...hit it with the hose and all the sand went suspension. There was nothing on the bottom of the bucket and the liquid was like a think cement type mixture. I am sure its awesome and I am in no means bad mouthing Marco's products. The rock is AWESOME!!! But I went and bought some larger particle sand that will better suit my tank. Anyone in Northern Virgina want 80 pounds of Marco sand?

And I actually took a finger full of marco sand and compared it to sugar. The sugar looks 4 times as big :-)

I believe it, it's tiny

TitanTV where in NoVa do you live? I would be interested in taking a look at the sand. I was thinking of ordering the same amount of sand and rock. Also I wanted to try and look at the rock in person before I order. That is if you don't mind. I live in Woodbridge.
