my clowns are dead!

I picjked up an acclimation container last week when I got my 2 black and white clowns.

this container suction cups inside the tank and slowly runs a siphon in from the tank and another from the container into a bucket on the ffloor.

this has an inner acrylic container that is vented to allow you to quarantine livestock within then tank when stuck to the glass.

well I just found my 2 clowns both trapped between the container and the glass dead!

I had the container on the glass holding my arrow crab until I can take him in (he ate my corals)

so the shop that sold me the fish also sold me the contraption that killed the fish.

I am ****ed off for multiple reasons and considering calling the shop and asking that they refund me for the container and replace my fish.

should I call them up or let it go?

Trapped between the container and the glass?
Where the suction cups are?
That's odd...

I have that same one , and that never happened to me and I use it for all my fish and inverts. I highly doubt you will get anything back from this , but better luck next time.

Unless they are really nice, I can't imagine them refunding your money. It's a similar situation to buying a Biocube and having the clowns jump into the back chambers and die. Or having an anemone that you purchased at the LFS eat your clowns. Some times, it just happens. Clowns are weird fish

they didn't jump, they swam between the acrylic quarantine container (which is inside the tank suction cupped to the glass) and the glass and got stuck there.

my guess is one got stuck and the other went in for his buddy and they both died there

Ow. I suggest an alternative method of acclimation in the stickies above. I say return that contraption and invest in a small quarantine tank. For various reason, I don't think that system is even safe chemically speaking. Bag water should NEVER EVER be allowed into the tank, a) because of parasites and b) because it rapidly develops ammonia once opened.

it does not put bag water into the tank, bag water goes in the container, water is siphoned at an adjustable rate out of the container into a bucket...

as water is siphoined out of the container tank water is siphoned into the container

bag water never enters the tank

I was only using the vented inner container as a quarantine container to keep my crab off my corals until I can take him to the LFS when this happened (while I was sleeping) however

I talked to the LFS and the guy that sold them to me (he sounded bummed about it even) said he will talk to the boss.
I did not tell them I wanted any compensation.
I took the opportunity to ask them about taking in my arrow crab as well.

I suspect they may offer me at least a deal on replacement fish

this is a new place that is just starting up and trying to build a reputation.

That would be good. But do understand that, device not withstanding, you cannot acclimate above 30 minutes without risk from ammonia.

And I am very glad the lfs is taking the high road. They may keep your business, which should be a thought uppermost in their minds.

I'm just tired of dead livestock, I've had 5 things die since starting this tank
1 talbot damsel that the LFS GAVE me because he had a injury from running into a rock (this one was expected)
1 peppermint shrimp that climbed through the face of my koralia powerhead in what I call a freak accident getting trapped there
2 clowns as stated in this post
and 1 scarlet hermit (he never crawled around after I got him and stayed stationary until he died but the other scarlet I got with his is thriving)

Not sure how the clowns can go between the glass and box but not come out. Have you checked your ammonia and nitrite?

It doesn't sound like this was caused by the equipment. Especially with the other deaths you have experienced. Not assuming anything, just saying.

Wow so sorry about your clowns. I had a clown get stuck on the over flow grate a couple nights ago. He'll be a tough one if he makes it. Id had other smaller ones go thru it a couple times and had to fish them out the next morning. Just never guessed a bigger fish couldnt get away from the suction. I think they sleep and get pulled to it and sucked in but really have no clue if thats true. We built a big cage out of the egg crate, gutter guard and zippy ties that starts about 3 inches down and out and goes clear up no out of the water from the overflow so they cant even get near the strong suction. Itll be a miracle if my husbands lil fella makes it, he was his favorite. Now Im worried about his anemone too, they loved each other dearly. Hoping he pulls thru, hes a sweetie so I feel for ya on your loss. Boy its seems the same luck I have with fish. Ive lost a few too and it sure is a bummer.
