I've had my first for just over a week now. I will post a picture when photobucket is back up. I've wanted one for a while now and was very excited to see someone with a lot of them available at a local swap.
I had placed it on a rock about four inches from the bottom. After a few days it moved to the underside of the rock with most of it on the sand. I've heard they are quite hardy. I'm sure others will chime in shortly. |

Thanks! I saw my first two today at my LFS but they were not for sale. Would love pictures and any suggestions of online vendors who sell them. The tank I hope to keep them in is lighted by LED.

Here is mine, this anemone has been easy to care for, and is being fed once a week with either krill, mysis, or squid. Under indirect halide (150 watts 14k) |

Ive had one for a few months now. Its done great since day one and hasnt moved an inch from where I put it. Currently under 250w halides, but is about 30-36" below, and off to the side, of the bulbs. I have kept others under everything from 400w halides to a 13w PC, and all seem to do equally well. The color develops into more complex patterns under the halides though. I dont feed mine.

I have two, a green and multicolored (predominantly pink). They like to hide. I only see the green. The pink went inside a cave as soon as I released it and has never moved. I can see it only if I shine a flashlight.

Ive had one for a few months now...got it from petco for about 35 bucks. the day after i introduced it my flameback angel wound up dead with a big spot on its side. they will move all over the tank until they are find a place they like, in my case it happened to be on the back side of the tank its a little small in my 55 gallon tank kinda hard to see. better suited for a nano tank.

I have a few when I had my 10g nano running. The ones I had are green with pink "skin" and mouth. They are quiet interesting but I kind of regret getting one. I would consider them to be semi-pest the way how fast they reproduce and the powerful sting they have. I started with 2 originally and within a couple of months, I had 6 or so. They seem to multiple quickly and sting every nearly corals. Due to their size, it's also almost impossible to completely get rid of them once they start multiplying.

Steve , I have 3 of various color. They've been in my tank for 5 months and seem hardy. Mine are about 2" in diameter.

From a scale of 1 (weakest) to 10 (strongest), I would say at least 7. If you know typical carpet anemone, they are exactly the same as far as stinger goes. Once something land into them, there is absolutely no way anything could pull back. I don't know if there are different types though but I would imagine they are similar. I was trying to look for a picture of the ones I had but unfortunately this is the only picture I got. If you look close in the gap between the clam and the porites coral, you will spot one in the lower right corner. You can see the whole section of porites are dead around the anemone.

Are you sure that isn't a mini, because I have had maxi's for a year and never had any of them reproduce on there own. I had over 40 total until a few weeks ago. I traded 27 of them in and kept a pretty copy of each of my favorites. They don't do well under to high of light in my experience. I had them in my 10 gallon, about 16 inches away from 150 watt mh and they didn't like it very well, but they did become more vibrant. Then I kept them in my 90 gallon with 4 54 watt t5's and they did very well in there also. Seems most of the time, they never end up where you want them though, like most anemones. They are very hardy.

I am not sure mine were mini or maxi. Kind of unfortunate that my picture is so small it's hard to get a proper ID. However, it looks very similar to the one NYCBOB has; just different color. Mine was in a 10g under 96w of PC. I was also feeding them in the beginning but stop soon after I notice they were spreading quickly. Mine were definitely hardy!
