Unless I am mistaken...filter sock is your only option. Whatever critter you put down there is still going to have waste

your question is miss leading ...
so you do not mean the display tank ? but a 100Gallon sump ? if you actually mean, how to get rid of detritus at the bottom of sump. answer is siphon it out, or use filter socks on the drains, or place a couple of power heads there to not let anything settle ... |

yes it is a 100 gal sump to a 120 gal display, don't want filter sock cause it would have to be cleaned everyday to prevent breakdown of waste to ammonia.but i like the powerhead idea

Increased water flow , controlled feeding habits , water filter such as a hang on back to collect floating debris.
I would go with a powerhead placed toward the bottom to keep debris from falling and settling with the bonus of a better gas exchange at the surface and more use of your best bio filter , the LR by pushing the water through it. |

i just put a maxi jet with a tube that reaches the bottom of my barebottom. It picks up all the detritus and grinds it up. Works great. here's a pic

If you but a pump in your sump to keep it suspended it will just find another spot to settle. |

I recently put an Aqueon 700 power head into my skimmer chamber. It does a good job keeping that area clean.
As a result of putting it there my bubble trap is now the area where the crud accumulates, which is just fine by me. I have a wet/dry vac that I fit a threaded reducing bushing onto the end of the hose and secured it with aquarium silicone. I threaded a barb fitting into that and attached a 3/8" vinyl hose. Works great, now I just have to periodically vacuum out the trap, which is a ton easier than vacuuming under my skimmer stand.
