EuroReef 6-1 overflows

Anyone got any idea why my 6-1 with sedra 3500 pump would overflow occasionally. Every couple weeks it will overflow and blow the top off. Seems to be working fine otherwise.

An old coralife I had years ago would do this when the water level changed in the sump but that does not seem to be the case here as it just did it while I was sitting here watching it. (no doors on the cabinet yet) The level in the sump was normal. Any suggestions?

The only time my ER skimmers would overflow it I would turn then way up so they would be more sensitive to increased water levels my RS 80 model you could increase the water level a couple of inches and it would not effect the skimmer, so with yours I would say it is mechanical impeller starting to swell or the venturi is getting clogged with salt creep. I like to boil RO water and put the air line in there and let the pump suck the boiling water through the pump, works good on ER skimmers.
