Euroreef CS80 water pump broken-Should buy a new pump or a new skimmer?
Hi all coming back from a 3 years without and trying to use most of what already have today I found that the water pump of my Euroreef CS80 is broke and I need a new one.Question is I don't know if is a good idea to get a new better skimmer or just replace the pump.My tank is a regular 55gal and I plan to have a reef with some fish in the long run
What do you guys think, I search for the Hydra pump that this skimmer use and is close to $90.00 and maybe there are good skimmers out there for a little more and perform better than the one I have. |

Are you sure you can't just replace the impller?
Much cheaper that way. |

Welcome to Reef Central I had that skimmer on my old 55 gallon tank and it worked great. I would keep it, how is the pump broken?

Broken like if you let someone(not me of course)drop a steel beam on top of it while repair something on a second floor.

Try looking at Amazon for a Sedra 3500 skimmer pump for a ASM skimmer that used to be the original skimmer pump for that skimmer. ER now Reef Dynamics have changed that pump several times.

I had the CS5/3 which is the the RS 80 or INS80 now, it is Reef Dynamics best selling skimmer. I had mine on my 55 gallon tank it pulled chocolate syrup like skimmate out. My tank was very successful due to a large part the skimmer. There are a lot of good choices now. The SCA 302 would rock your tank and it is about 120 bucks on e-bay see the SC 150 thread lot of love their. Another good choice is the the SRO line of skimmers the 1000 SSS comes to mind but it is sub 300. Sea Side Aquatics CS 1 for about 270 is another good choice.
It really depends on how much you want to spend. |
