Sump/Fuge question

I am seeking information on the best way to set up a sump/fuge. I have noticed the following setups and would like to know what are the advantages of each setup.

#1. Water from the DT is split between the skimmer and fuge sections and both flow into the return section.

#2. Water from the DT enters the skimmer section, travels to the fuge and then enters the return section.

Basically there is no "right" answer, just a matter of personal preference, but either way will work.

I have your option #1.

It works great for me, but only after I did a great deal of rigging after the tank was already set up and running.

If/when I do it again I will have a Tee coming off the return pump with a ball valve as a supply line to the fuge, that way you can control exactly how much water flows through your fuge, (then fuge just drain into return section) instead of just going with whatever amount flows through there (from either skimmer section or from DT)

I have always used #2 but like stated above it's a matter of preference.

My setup is like this:
Haven't got it running yet but it will get about 500gph of flow which is probably more then it needs.

I got #1 in my set up and I haven't had issues with it for the past 7 months
