Cameras?!

I have been trying to find a camera that will take great pictures of our tank.

one that will take good pictures while our blue led is on, good pictures of our fish , and close ups of all our cool little things that pop up in our tank....

I have seen a lot of great pictures on this site of other peoples tanks and was just wondering, what kind of cameras do you guys use?

buying an expensive camera won't make you take better pictures. If you want a good starter camera look for a smaller point and shoot with manual controls on it. maybe even an older used DSLR with a kit lens.
Also Blue LEDs seem to always clip colors for me so I never shoot under them. Maybe someone with more experience can chime in on that one.

See the photo subforum. Specifically the stickies.

To answer your question though, I use a Nikon D40 and a Sigma 150/2.8 lens for macros.

I believe the most important aspect for taking tank photos is the ability of the camera to take photos in RAW format and have decent noise handling at higher ISO (800-1600 at least). Then you can do some post processing to get the most out of the image. I have never taken a pic where the camera reproduced the colour correctly. The colour spectrum of our lights are just too tricky for the camera sensor. And by shooting in RAW mode you get the chance to tweak the colours to what your eyes actually see.

+1on the macro... And a good tripod... Post processing is just as tricky....even with raw...
