New 90gal already seeing brittle star
Is this normal I don't think my tank is through cycling but me and my gf noticed a little star moving around the tank then I poked at him/her and he just moved away haha. My gf was so excited she named him is this normal after four days of cycling?

It's amazing sometimes when critters can weather the ammonia. Sounds like your on the right track though. GL.

j/k.....yes...he was a hitchiker on the live rock and they are pretty hardy. Turn a flashlight on at night and you will find all sorts of cool stuff in there!

I spent literally hours just staring at my one live rock when I set up my tank. I used dry rock mostly, but got one live rock from the LFS. It was amazing to just have stuff show up. You'll find the starfish, some snails, maybe sponges, hopefully not aptasia, and a lot of stuff that will make you start searching the internet for answers.
I still sneak into my office at night sometimes with a pen light just to see what is in my tank at night. Once, I figured out I have about 500 more of those little brittle stars in my tank than I originally thought. They just all hid in the sand when the lights are on. Just wait until you've had the tank up for a year and you notice something that has just appeared. It's amazing. |
