Vortech sizing help
I'm looking to replace a couple of constant flow Koralia Evo 1050 pumps with a Vortech(s). The tank is a 75g (48Lx21Hx18D). The sizing wizard seems to point to a single MP40 but I understand you get a lot of capabilities if you have more than 1 unit. It looks like 2 MP40s would be way overkill. Should I go with 2 MP10s? No SPS yet but I would like to have some (Millipora, Montipora, and Setosa) in the future.
Thanks! -Mike |

I think with 2 mp10s you will be fine for SPS in your tank. The mp40s would future proof you if you go bigger. I think two creates more random flow and better environment

Any other thoughts? Two MP40s is a huge investment. I know you lose features when you one run one but how will one be vs. the two constant flow Koralias I have now?

I run two mp40's in my 75 Gallon. They have to be positioned right not to stir up any sand. I run mostly reef crest mode a little over half way turned up. I like having them in there and don’t feel that it is over kill. But that’s just me.
If anything you can start out with one and see how you like it. I have read about the mp10's having a narrow flow and thats why I didnt try them. The mp40's were an upgrade from two Koralia 1400's |

Thanks! I think I'll start with 1 MP40 and hope to add a 2nd in the future.

One is going to make you want two. lol
I got one and had a Koralia 4 on the opposite side. Then got another quickly. Reef Crest mode in anti-sync is epic. I love seeing things sway in random directions.

Just go to their website and use the calculator. It will let you play around with the quantity of each size and show you the possible flow rates.
It's neat! |
