Green Spotted puffer and damsel?

Has anyone had experience keeping green spotted puffers with damsels? I have always been under the assumption that gsp should be a primarily solitary fish, but my girlfriend fell in love with a damsel, and it is now in the tank my gsp was going to be put in when it got bigger. The guide sheet at petco listed puffers as a compatible tank mate, but I'm skeptical.

I've done alot of research on possible tankmates with green spot puffs and found many have good success with damsels.

Good choice IMO.

I know the green spotted puffers are brackish fish, but......will they take the full salt that damsels are used to?

Yeah they will. I've seen many do it.

i used to have a little gsp. i loved him, but they need very fatty and protein filled foods. i had to switch brands because my favorite LFS moved, and he slowly diminished. he was my favorite fish.

I had a green spot that lived in my softie reef for years. He was in there with a blue damsel, two clowns, and a royal gramma. He never bothered a soul. he was hell on snails though.

When they are mature I think they require a full salt environment. Worst thing that is going to happen is the puffer will eat the damsel. I would guess you won't have problems though.

Hahaha which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing cuz damsels are the devil in sheeps clothing!

I currently have 3 gsp in full marine conditions (they thrive in marine conditions) and they don t bother any of their tank mates, and damsels as a whole are mean enough and fast enough to avoid any gsp aggression, i would be cautious with fish that are slow movers, flowing fins, or bottom dwellers though(imo)

Thanks for the input everyone. Can't wait for the full salt transition for my gsp, he's getting close, about 1.0018. I bump his tank a little sg every change, soon he will be ready for the marine tank.

UPDATE:
A bit more than 2 years later and we have 2 happy fish living together in full marine salinity. I have the puffer eating spectrum pellets also. Never been able to get a puff to eat anything but frozen before.
