Is this crab a good one?

Hello everyone,

I saw this crab hiding in one of my stony corals. Is i took her out of the tank as i am not sure if it safe or not. Do you have any idea?

Thanks for the help.

Best regards,

Dino

She'd definitely be safe in your sump, and live a long and useful life.
Look up 'mithrax' crab and see if that is close. Mithrax species are milder than most.

Thanks Sk8r,

If it is safe then why not in the display tank and only in the sump? (i am still in the learning process and thank for replying).

Best regards,

Dino

Kinda does look like a ruby emerald crab (the mithrix) I've got the green version hanging out in my 26 totally docile! And takes out algae like a champ!!!

Looks like it could be a commensal crab, if so it is perfectly fine in your display. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...14&pcatid=2914

Safe in your sump: there's theoretically nothing down there that you paid 30.00 for that it might eat. The food chain in your display tank should involve only algae.

That was the first thing I thought also: an Acro crab. Especially because it was found in a stony coral.

Excellent! I'm a little jealous of your hitchhiker actually. I've looked at them at Liveaquaria but never made the purchase.

This is a Tetralia cavimana. One of most desirable crab you will be able find for the acro. This particular species is among the most aggressive in defending the host colony.
