Tube Worms: Good? Yeah right says my frags.
Well, so im nearing the 6 month mark on my 20 Gallon Nano. Water parameter's seem to be pretty much in check and most everything is doing really well in the tank, but im fighting TUBE WORMS . I have read that they arent bad, but they seem to be killing some of my smaller coral frag's so I decided to try and super glue them shut. Does anyone else have any good idea's on how to get rid of these dang things?

They kinda come and go on their own. I always notice them early on in a new setup then they start dwindling after a while.

Pictures please, it helps to ID, if they send out little clear threads they might
be vermetid snails.

I cant get a decent enough picture for identification, but they are purple in color and look like tube worm's or vermetid snails not quite sure
EDIT: Pretty sure they are vermetid snails now, hopefully my super glue trick works out. I glued probably 90 percent of them shut earlier today. Last edited by Boston21; 11/09/2013 at 10:09 PM. |

Yeah, first attempt at IDing was wrong. This is my first tank and all, and I did go back and edit it saying that it was either of the two. Im just worried about losing coral being as my tank is a nano and the mucus seems to be burning the coral.

Hopefully these damn things will stop reproducing. They dont seem to be out of control yet, but I would at-least like to keep them manageable.

That is weird. My vermatids don't seem to do any harm.

Vermetids SUCK!!! They are the ultimate survivalist s and can exist on nothing since they dont move around. I broke a very rare a prized torch into many frags trying to deal with them. Don't know what to say. Had them for a year. They are messy and over time will cover your rocks with their webs which collect detritus. Also stress spa right the hell out. Between them and bubble algae I have added my share of gray hairs. I have given up on the vermetids unless one is really driving me crazy.
