flow speed for 29g tank?

I've been told I need 580gph from my powerhead for my 29g and I've tried doing research and feel like I'm getting extremely different answers.

I have a mixed sand bed and one currently running at 500gph and it blows my sand all around. I have it pointed at the surface and the glass to try and help with the flow strength. The head can not be adjusted for speed.

I'd love some input and possibly recommendations for other equipment if what I have is wrong.

With the 500gph PH, you are a little over 15x total volume. Which, is not bad for softies and lps. Also, it is usually recommended to split your turnover with two powerheads and not just one. This way your total turnover is not being done by one powerhead and pushing all of that water in one direction. You use two powerheads at half the amount each and you get less push in one direction.

You could go with two of the 240s

And if I wanted a wavemaker effect, would I still split or would I do full since they alternate which is on?

You can do one full with a wavemaker. I have a jebao wp-40 and it does great in my 65. You could probably do well with the wp-25 for your tank.

Been using a Jebao WP-10 and a Aqueon 500 and it seems to be a nice current running through my tank. Rockwork will also add to your flow or lack there of. I prefer a wall in the middle of my 29g so I run the WP-25 (left side) across the front of the tank and the 500 (right side) pushing the water behind it (helps with dead spaces back there).
