I'm battling bryopsis and would like to know what the ratio of water to Epsom salt or (magnesium sulphate) is. To create a solution. I'm aware that chloride should be added but I've done a lot of reading of the effects of a sulphate solution. I have some tech M on the way but I would like to do this in the mean time. My water volume is 170 gallons afrr rock and equipment.

It isn't magnesium which kills bryposis. You need to get Tech M. One of the "other" ingredients in Tech M is what kills the bryposis. Raising your magnesium with a Magnesium sulfide/chloride mix will do nothing other than raise your magnesium.

For what it's worth and for the sake of the people who find this thread later down the road:

Two-part dosing for calcium/alk supplement:
1 gallon of RODI water to 5 cups of magnesium chloride and 3 cups of magnesium sulfate

Calcium reactor and/or kalk for calcium/alk supplement:
1 gallon of RODI water to 7.25 cups of magnesium chloride and 0.75 cups of magnesium sulfate

The reason for the two different recipes is the imbalance of chloride in the water from dosing calcium chloride as part of a two-part regiment. Over time, it can get significant.

Like Decadence said, it is most likely a trace element in Tech M that kills the bryopsis, not the magnesium. We wouldn't need Tech M and the high cost if we could simply kill it with cheap mag sulfate and water.

Tech M has about 18 traces on it, including copper, which is my guess for what trace kills the bryopsis.

I've had good results with sulphate... I did a water change a week ago and id started to get a footing yesterday after a a week So I'm going to add the sulphate anyway. I also purchased a bottle of tech m. I have a 170 gallon water volume. So how much ppm will a 64oz bottle of tech m raise the mag?
