Radion G2 or AI Hydra 26
I'm working on a 60g cube build now 24x24 and can't decide which would be the better choice. I can find the G2 Radion for Round the same price as a new Hydra 26.
My question is what would be the better choice I like the reputation and everything about the Ecotech Radion but the Hydra is growing on me. How is the controllability between the two? Which light would allow me to have anything from softies to SPS? |

IMO in you can get the G2 Radion Pro; I'd go for that over a Hydra 26. I dont own either, so I am pretty impartial here; but two of my buddies own one of each...and there isnt much between them.
However the reaon I'd for for a G2 Pro is that with the two pucks on the Radion, you'd have better coverage. HTH. |

IMO...a G2 Pro would be best suited.

I have the G2 Pro Radion and my buddy has the AI 26.............and for a 60 cube I would definitely go with the G2 Radion Pro. The coverage is much better for that size tank with the bigger Radion. The AI 26 is small and with the 80 degree optics it's coverage area is smaller, unless you mount it high above the tank.

I have owned both fixtures, and the hydra52 is a much more comparable fixture with a radion. Its difficult to make the comparison because you're comparing 2 very different things; a used full sized lamp (with less spectrum) to a new mini lamp (that doesn't cover glass to glass). It would be easier to compare a radion to a hydra52 or a radion15 to a hydra26. Either way, the hydra offers a greater spectrum unless you get a radion pro. If it were me, I would get a used hydra52 for full spectrum and full coverage.

The OP wasn't comparing a Hydra52 to a Radion Gen3 non pro. The comments were directly related to what he was considering purchasing. The Hydra26 and Hydra52 offers LEDs in the low 400nm to 420nm range, therefore increased spectrum. There's never been a mention of Gen3 until your post.
From Ecotechs website on the Gen2 non pro • White: 8 Cree XT-E Cool White (5W each) • Red: 4 Osram Oslon SSL Hyper Red (3W each) • Green: 4 Cree XP-E Green (3W each) • Blue: 8 Cree XP-E Blue (3W each) • Royal Blue: 8 Cree XT-E Royal Blue (5W each) Max Wattage of Radion Fixture: 140 Watts Max Wattage of LED Channels: 130 Watts From AI website on the Hydra26 8 - Cree XP-G2 Cool White (> 70 CRI) 2 - OSRAM OSLON Deep Red 2 - Cree XP-E2 Green 6 - Cree XT-E Royal Blue 4 - OSRAM OSLON Deep Blue 2 - SemiLED 415nm Violet 2 - SemiLED 400nm UV

The downside of the standard G2 Radion is that it's missing the UV spectrum.
The G2 Pro has it, which makes it much better. There are 2 used G2 Radions with the G3 Pro pucks in them in the For Sale section right now by RTBM. I bought my Radion from him a couple of months ago, great seller. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=2455814 Last edited by myram; 11/12/2014 at 04:26 PM. |

I'd pick up a used Gen2 Pro over the Hydra 26 for your tank any day. |

I'll chime in even though you already made your choice but the Hydra 26 works very well on a 60 cube.. I have a 60 cube setup and when I was debating either the 26 or the 52, AI said they had been running a 26 on a test 60 gallon cube setup for 6-8 months with great results. I am very happy with mine it covers the tank great and my corals are growing nicely.
