multiple tangs in one tank
Anyone have any experiance with this? Liveaquaria says to use caution with multiple tangs in one tank. I have a yellow tang, but I wanna get a Powder blue and or powder Brown tang as well. Anyone have multiple tangs in one tank? And if so, how did it work out.

90g. I knew that was coming. I know what size Liveaquaria suggests. But that's not my question. I don't wanna mix the 2 or 3 if they are going to fight.

I have a Powder Brown, Blue Hippo, Tomini, and Purple Tang. All of them get along great with each other and my other fish. I did put the Purple in last as those and the Yellows can sometimes get aggressive when other fish are introduced after them.

So many nice tangs it's hard to pick just one. Thanks for your input.

In a 90 gallon tank I would limit yourself to the one yellow tang.

Nice looking tanks. Just got my 90 up and cycled. I took my yellow out of my 24g nano and put him in my 90. He was in my 24 for 8 months and I never had issues with him.

Seeing some conflicting things here. Guess it just depends on the fish. One LFS here sells them for 150$ which I think is crazy. Another store a few miles from them sells them for 50$

It all comes down to a tiny bit of skill and whole bunch of luck with mixing certain tangs.
Like I said above I have a powder blue and a dussumieri together which you will find is supposed to be a horrible idea since they are from the same genus (not to mention powder blue's are typically vicious).

Maybe I'll get a powder blue and go from there. If he starts getting stupid I'll take him out. I know some of y'all are going to keep saying my tank is too small but my yellow tang was in my 24g for 8 months and did great.

I have a Tomini, Blue tang, yellow tang and a Kole. No issues. Don't get them too big. But I must say I've been lucky.

I am not against mixing tangs that supposedly aren't supposed to get along BUT in saying that, it is our responsibility to make sure we help these creatures thrive in our care. We have a much larger build now and do have multiple tangs but they have room to swim, caves to hide & any signs of aggression they are out ! Can't stand thinking of a fish living it's life in fear 24/7.

There are many factors that will determine whether Tangs get along. Relative size of the fish, similar versus dissimilar species, order of introduction, amount of space they have to swim around ..... so while the OP may think tank size is irrelevant, it is not. All other things being equal, more space means more harmony.
Now, you can certainly keep fish in tanks that are smaller when they are small, but eventually there will be problems. For example, I have a Naso tang in my 90 gallon 'grow out' tank simply because it got the stuffing beaten out of it in my 265 (principally by the YT). Once it puts on some size, it's going back in .....

I have a powder blue in my 180 and it's the most active fish in my tank and sometimes I feel like it needs a bigger thank not to mention that it's the king of the tank.
If you get one and IF it gets along with your yellow, it would be short while plus you would not be able to add anything else in the future. Not to mention that if not properly qt they are itch magnets which could wipe out your system really fast. Just my opinion. If you are going to do it anyway, I would remove the yellow for a few days and add them together and make them the last addition. And make sure to qt.
