Green chromis behavior
So i finally added my first fish after upgrading to a bigger tank. A green chromis as my title states. Now It may be due to the fact that i am new to the hobby or something is wrong.
I acclimated the fish for 30 minutes water dripped than introduced to water. Immediately he went and hid under and beside my overflow box. Has been there now for over 7 hours or so. He comes out for a few seconds during the 3 feeding attempts of various foods nibbles then retreats again. Will it be this way always? Or will this behavior chsnge once it is familiarized with its new surroundings? I know these sre "shoaling" fish, but this is new to me lol |

I will also add that it is completely horizontal under my overflow box...

it might still be trying to adjust to its new surroundings. chromis are very prone to uronema. then there're things like flukes, ich, velvet and so on. i'd like to suggest setting up a quarantine tank for future livestock purchases. that way, you could observe and treat the fish easily if needed. good luck.

I have three, and two of them spend all their time in an upper corner of my tank. The third and largest has formed a domestic partnership with my black ocellaris clown. You just never know what's going to happen.
In time your fish will get comfortable in your tank. My two smaller chromis swim diagonally much of the time. |

Yes i am probably going to try and do this soon. Its just difficult having two tanks running at once. Its been hard enough getting one up and running. Lol |

Green chromis can be rather shy. If they feel any bit of insecurity they dart and hide. They also are prone to murdering each other i started with seven now left with two and been that way for a year.

There goes the "peaceful" quality i was trying to attain lol beware the quiet ones. Its just one in my tank all alone. Will this cause issues later when i add fish? |

Just as a general rule any new fish added will hide out for some period of time. Once they do not feel threatened they will venture out into the tank. Good luck.
