Fish food?
Hello, what is everyone feeding their fowlr tanks? I need a suggestion. I just added my cleanup crew,( snails and hermits for a 40 b) 32 snails and 5 hermits. I have green algae and diatoms ... But I think I should supplement for the crabs until I add my fish..

For my crabs I use some algae strips on a clip, they love it!! As well as my flame angel. For the other inhabitants I feed a homemade brew of mysis, scallops, shrimp, clams, and some reef chilli. I put it all in a food processor with some water from my tank. I supplement with this mixture about twice a week. For the other days I use seachem marine flakes, and all my inhabitants really eat this flake up.

For FOWLR tank you should have most carnivores which can be feed any frozen food made for saltwater fish. Also you can get fresh seafood from your local grocery store. You can also feed pellets(New Life Spectrum is very good). If you have any omnivores mixed in, you can put in some seaweed hanging from a clip in the tank. May I say, you have alot of snails for a 40 gallon breeder. You may want to keep an eye on them, some may starve to death due to the lack of food for them.

LFSs and online "CUC packages" always way over state how much you need as a way to sell more. Best to just add a hand full at a time and get what your tank needs when you see a need. Or if you're like me get a snail or some other CUC member because they are cool and you want one as a pet. I get excited to get anything for my tank, even just going out to get a few snails.

I thought it was a bit excessive but I trusted him. It's not like I broke the bank. They were running a 50% off invert sale. So it's not like they were trying to over sell me. If I get some die off so be it. The hermits will need new shells eventually right?!

I believe LFS's will over estimate to account for some DOA or some that only last a month
