Cycling

I have seen it suggested to put a dead shrimp in the tank to initiate a cycle. I have some frozen tilapia. Would a small piece of that work?

Think of it as a balance, amount of waste to the amount of bacteria to clear that waste. The bacteria population will not grow without food.

How much?

How much tilapia should I put in the tank? It's a 75 gallon with a 30 gallon sump.

a chunk the size of a quarter or fifty cent piece should do it.
