Question about tank height

I am in the process of getting back into the hobby. I found a great deal on a 220 gallon tank. I plan on building this tank into my basement and wondered about the height of the tank. My ceilings are 8 feet unfinished. I plan on finishing out the sump room prior to setting up the tank.

I would go no lower than 36in for the base of the tank.

My basement build (9 ft finished ceiling) maybe give you some ideas

my arm pits are ~ 5ft tall.... when on a 3 step ladder. yes I have to use a step ladder to clean the tank but thats only on once a week... rest of the week the tank is at ideal viewing height.

And plenty of room under for sump and access to clean sump.

It's really an aesthetic question. I put my 30" tall tank on a 30" stand. Just happens to be armpit height for me as well - what a coincidence

First rule of maintenance is that the easier it is to do, the more likely it will be done.

i think it all really depends on the Design layout and other furniture in the room.. If you are going to have a table close to the tank location i would say 32-36 inches to keep it uniform... I have my Display tank in living room 40 inches off the floor Because we needed book storage . The wall the tank is on used to be built in book cases.Also it looks nice from outside the front picture window street level....

If you want it very view able from sitting on say a sofa then im thinking 28 inches from bottom of tank . of course again depending on furniture and tank height....

Just my opinion. Just remember to not go over board with trim and complexity around the tank and what it sits on Make the tank the FOCAL Point not its stand ....

The most common afterthought complaint I see is people wishing they went tall enough for gear.
You are going to need a fairly good size skimmer on a 220g, so keep that in mind.
I would never go less than 36" for this reason alone unless you have a fish room behind tank that will house all gear.

I have a 220. I built the stand 41 inches tall the tank is 30 inches tall. I wanted to look straight into it. All work is from a ladder and a royal pita! But hey, It's at eye level! and I have plenty of room under the tank.

Thanks for all the feedback! I'm picking my tank up Friday. It will probably be a year before it sees any fish though :-/.

I like the idea of eye level but concerned about the distance the lights will be from the top of the tank. It will be going in my future office space in the basement. It will be built into the wall with a sump room behind. I would like to keep the sump below with everything in it... So I suppose I should decide on skimmer and design from there.

Do you have any suggestions for skimmers? I have been looking at the Aqua max cone q series does anyone have feed back about these?

In addition for this size tank and flow requirements as I intend to have sps corals would it be better to have multiple internal pumps or a single external
pump?
Below should be a picture of the tank as well.

Thanks for all you advice and input. At anytime if I should direct my questions to another part of the forum please advise.
