dropping salinity how fast

how fast can i drop salinity ? say from 1.029 to 1.026? can it be down within 2 days? or more ?

What do you have in your tank?

Previous tanks: 200 gal fowlr 9" Emperor Angel and many different butterfly fish 4" maroon clown and several other fish, 50 gal sump, 40 gal mixed reef/fish mostly softies and LPS.

Current Tank Info: 40b 750 gph 45 lbs lr, 2"-3" sand, 165w full spectrum dimable LED, 20 gal sump/refugium 30 lbs lr, Bak Pak 2 skimmer, 4" sock temp 79-80, sg 1.026, NH3 0, NO2 0, NO3 <10, ph 8.2, calc 400, mag 1300

The sps aren't as forgiving as the others of fast changes, so this said I'd take it down over a few days like you said. Maybe .001 ppm per day should be fine. There really is no perfect answer IMO

That's what I figured , I'm going to do this in a weeks time , the only hard part is figuring out how many gallons of tank water to take out and replace with RO water. In a 120 gallon system ... I think 5 gallons ...

Not a huge drop, should be fine doing it over a few days.

I'd take a 2-3 day break between lowering it.
