Pacific Redstripe Hogfish
Hello All,
I had put this into the Reef Fishes forum and got no answer. I actually found the scientific name of the fish which my LFS has it labeled as a Candy Cane Hogfish. I wanted to know if I could get away with it in my tank? Currently, my stocklist in a 120 gallon is as follows: 1. Chocolate Mimic Tang- 4" 2. Lawnmower Blenny- 3.5" (little aggressive) 3. Coral Beauty- 2.5" 4. Clownfish- 2.5" 5. Melanurus Wrasse- 3.5" 6. Bluethroat Trigger- 3" 7. Flame Hawkfish- 2.5" Base upon researching, I know they are know for jumping and that some hobbyist said they were aggressive with their wrasses. Most of those reviews were hobbyist with the smaller wrasse in the tank. Mines is around 3.5" right now. Please any advice or suggestions are welcome. |

I don't think it will be a problem, but Steve (Snorvich) our resident expert on compatible fish will chime in to confirm or deny this LOL.

Thanks Dkuhlmann. That's a beautiful fish. The LFS has had it for 3 weeks now, it's eating everything and looks real healthy. I am just concern of the appearance of it looking like my Melanurus wrasse. It's about 2.5".

Your Mel can take care of itself as they're not a pushover at all LOL. If you are worried get an acclimation box to put in your tank and put the new fish in there before letting it loose in your DT after quarantine.

Ok. Just making sure because LFS has it priced at $90. I will do that. What I was reading that hobbyist with some, they were aggressive to wrasse, I'm guessing from the body appearance.

You can always have that problem with any fish with like bodies. It's part of reefing and keeping fish. I have a terrorist in my tank and it's a 2" Cherub Angel. He picks on everything accept my Golden Midas Blenny.
