Vertex Omega 150 breakin? settings?

I got this thing running ~ 2 weeks ago in the tank, and have been fuddling around with it, ive had it in a water level from 6.9" all the way up to 8" and it continues to just overflow no matter the volute setting or riser tube setting.

is it possibly just still breaking in?

My tank is a new tank, empty, with just BRS pukani rock that i am curing/cycling in the tank. so no real load in there right now.




Where is the best spot on the body to have the water level at inside? i noticed with adjusting the tube, i can have it about in inch from the bottom to just about the same as the 7" water level outside the body. it doesnt seem to matter where i set it, it keeps overflowing.

if i go any lower than the current just shy of 7" the tube will actually be out of water and i shouldn't need to go that low right?

Still breaking in.

Your water levels seem high. That baffle to the right of the skimmer should be limiting the water level in that chamber. You should lower the level in the chamber on the right (assuming water is going left to right) and will keep the level constant in the skimmer chamber.

Iirc, the Vertex skimmers are sensitive to water levels.

I got rid of the skimmer due to the fact it was very inconsistent and it would overflow all the time. I had a decent bioload and tried to get it to work but gave up after 5 months.

That water level is actually where it stays locked in unless I overfill my return section to the right, it's actually falling about 2 inches lower to the right it's just hard to make out. Should the outflow of the riser tube be fully submerged or partially above water?

raised it up another half inch, putting the top of the outlet nozzle just at the surface of the water, and now with the pipe all the way open it is much better, so we'll see how it runs for a few days now.

im still open to suggestions and ideas as i still think its not right, or still breaking in.

nah, everything has been in here awhile. nothing new and no chemicals.

My omega 130 took 3 or 4 weeks to break in, a lot longer than other skimmers I had but it finally broke in. I found that running it in the minimum depth helped a lot at the beginning and as it broke in I would lower it about 1/2" at a time. When I started I was at like 6" depth for it to settle down & the output was about half way out of the water. I know yours is a different skimmer but it seems to be doing the same as mine did. Being it's a new tank it will probably take a little longer to break in

i have it squared away now, what i ended up doing was raising it 1.5" and it finally stopped overflowing, let it run a few days, and now ive lowered it down gradually, i'll prob lower it another half inch in a few days and see if its still working properly.

that'll put it where i originally started it at. thanks guys!
