Aquamaxx WS1 or AquaC Urchin
This was originally posted in the Equipment category with no replies. Perhaps I should of posted it here. If possible can the moderator is able to move it and delete this post? If not sorry for the double post.
Heres the OP: I currently have an AquaC Urchin In Sump skimmer which was working well up until about a couple of months ago. I decided to put cheato in my sump which ended up clogging up my skimmer and pump. It was a mess. After cleaning everything out the pump seems to be back to normal but the skimmer does not. Also that skimmer is really difficult to clean as it does not disassemble. I was able to get a small vacuum tube in there to pull out whatever i could and kinda poked around with a paperclip. My guess is that I did some damage. The skimmer just doesn't seem to be the same after that and its time to replace it. It just isn't producing that dark skim mate any longer. It will either produce clear water, or just a little cloudy if that. I've made several adjustments and can't get it right. The only way to adjust the skimmer is to raise/lower the collection cup. Moving forward....due to my small space in my cabinet sump the only two skimmers I can find that will fit are the Aquamaxx WS1 or the same AquaC Urchin that i've got. Both have great reviews however most people use the Aquamaxx in a 35g tank. I've got a 60 cube. It is rated to 65 gal. The AquaC is rated to 75 gal. so its not a huge difference. There is about a $20 in the two. Does anyone have any advice on these two skimmers, or could you recommend another one that may be better? My useable footprint is about 8"x 5". Thanks |

BUT, the 65g is for lighter bioloads. If your tank is well stocked it tops out at about 25-30 gallons. If it's light stocked and you don't plan on doing much down the road...then the AquaMaxx is the better choice IMO but only by a slight margin.
