Coral help
Hi fellow fish keepers.
Today I bought my first coral a zoanthid I believe. After about 2 hours in the tank it has started to release what appears to be seeds. Is this normal or have I did something wrong . Any advice much appreciated. Merry Christmas to you all. |

Never seen this but zoos are very hardy and I doubt you have done anything wrong

We will need WAY more info than you have given us.
Tank size/ age (time since cycle complete) sump? lighting water parameters - and not "all good" - actual numbers amount of rock/sand and did you start with "live" rock or sand? total circulation in ~gph skimmer? etc etc etc Without the pertinent information it is impossible to even guess. And pictures would help immensely - you aren't even sure if it's a zoanthid sp.? We are happy to help, so help us help you

I understand.
The tank used to be planted it is a 120litre fluval roma. I have tunze skimmer running fluval reef 2.0 led lighting just to start me off. I don't have a sump and I'm running external filter for chemical filtration nothing in this yet thought. Temp is 26 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and nitrate is 10 salt level is 1.025. Running 2500l/h powerhead. Also started tank with real reef man made rock 12kg worth. Thanks again I did take video of these seeds being released but not sure how to post it thanks. It is defo a polyp green in the middle shaped like a button and has small brown testicle round the edges of the button if you like. In the middle of this button there is a small slit which is where the seeds were coming from. Thanks I am new to saltwater and would appreciate any advice given not lectures Kind regards |

If its slimy, it means they are stressed and they are expelling there zooanthelle which is the algae that lives inside them, if its "solid/pellets" its poop.

Hi reef guy.
Thanks for your reply. These seem solid disc shape light space ship shape. Not slime or anything but all the buds seemed to do this 1 after the other now everything seems fine. Also when these were released the coral would close and they have all opened again. Space ship shape is the best to describe this. I obviously have a lot to learn here as I didnt know that the would create actual poop.haha Thanks again |
