Elegance coral ate my mandarin

Seeing is believing. I have been finding empty snail shells under or close to Mr. Elegance today I was eating my lunch looked over and saw my Mandarin being eaten for lunch. That was at noon it is now 5:00 and obviously elegance is a slow eater. Mandarin is/was 4” long. LFS said it was one of the largest one the had ever seen.

It is still in its mouth this morning. Should I remove it? No CUC is going to go into that coral to clean. I fear that it is going mess up the water. This Mandarin was almost 4” long so there is still half of it hanging out. This elegant coral eats the body out of snails. There is always a pile of empty shells close to it.

If your tank is well established it shouldn't matter. If the elegance would have consumed the mandarin it would still be breaking down inside of it causing the same thing to happen if you were to leave a dead fish in there for your CUC. Or if you are just sick of seeing the demise of your Mandarin then remove it.

Never had my elegance eat a fish, snails sure, but never a fish! I did have one rather large rock flower eat a mandy a while back.

Of course I'm going to say that the mandy had to be sick, but one never knows for sure.

We also watched a Rock flower eat a chromes so this was not as shocking as it could have been. I think I will try to get it out of its mouth I’m still afraid of water problems. Thank all

Usually the fish was weak or was already dead before the coral got to it. I have had my fugia plate eat my clown once. I assumed the clown was already dead and for sweep into the fugue's mouth.
